The Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced that a new Rs 2000 currency note is being gradually introduced into the country’s monetary system.
The note, first issued on 29 August as a commemorative release to mark the Bank’s 75th anniversary, is now being distributed to the public through Licensed Commercial Banks.
According to the Bank, financial institutions are currently calibrating their cash-handling machines to recognize and dispense the new denomination. Once this process is complete, the note will become more widely available across the banking network.
The Central Bank urged public cooperation during the transition period and assured that the Rs. 2000 note would be smoothly integrated into all banking channels. The denomination was previously in circulation but was withdrawn from regular use.
