The renovation of the Pettah Central Bus Station commenced today (15) with a ceremony held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Originally built in 1964, the bus station is being renovated for the first time in six decades. For years, the premises had been in a neglected state, often described as dirty and unsafe, tarnishing the country’s image in the eyes of visitors.
With the support of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Rs. 424 million has been allocated for the renovation project. The plan includes modern restrooms, information and communication centers, enhanced security systems, and several other new facilities.
At the launch of the program, Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake said that within one and a half years, the Pettah Bus Stand would be transformed into a modern facility with state-of-the-art features.
