A fire has broken out at the Mahara prison according to residents in the area. Initial reports are suggesting that the inmates have set fire to the Kitchen of the prison.
Late evening today (29) an unrest was reported from the prison after Police said a group of inmates had attempted to escape. One inmate was reportedly killed and three others injured after officials had shot at the group. Five Police teams and one STF team had been sent to the prison to assist the prison officials to control the situation. The team of STF personnel have tightened the security of the prison perimeters. Several escape attempts were reported from Prisons recently due to Covid 19 fears as cases in the prisons have exceeded the 1000 mark.
