Police have seized another vehicle without a proper license plate, suspected to be owned by former Minister Johnston Fernando. Acting on a tip received through the hotline of 1997, officers found a light blue Ford Laser parked at the Sampath Auto Engineering Institute in Liyangoda, Pannipitiya.
When questioned, workshop staff reported that a driver of the former minister brought the vehicle in for repairs, citing a technical issue. They revealed that the vehicle had no official license plate, only a cardboard sign marked KM-5421 displayed in its place.
Police investigators have now impounded the car and plan to proceed with their inquiry based on the engine and chassis numbers.
Johnston Fernando was previously detained in connection with an illegally assembled BMW found abandoned in the Hilton Hotel parking lot, bearing a stolen license plate. He was granted bail on October 30.
