Former Minister Johnston Fernando was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police. He had been summoned to the CID to record a statement about a car found parked at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo recently.
Investigations revealed that the BMW, with a fake license plate, was sent by Johnston Fernando, a Member of Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Party, to Kurunegala. The car was not registered in Sri Lanka, and the number plate was fake.
Although the CID tried to contact Fernando earlier for a statement, they could not find him. Today, he appeared at the CID in Colombo, and after questioning, he was arrested. According to sources, he will be brought to court later today.
Meanwhile, Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tillekeratne issued another warrant for Fernando’s arrest, related to a case where he allegedly used Sathosa staff for his political activities while serving as the Minister of Trade and Cooperatives.
