President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando, appearing on behalf of retired Major General Suresh Sallay, filed a motion before Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (June 3), stating that his client has suicidal tendencies.
In the motion, the President’s Counsel stated that, according to forensic medical reports, Maj. Gen. Sallay, who is being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, is suffering from depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and is therefore at risk of suicide.
He further requested the court to place his client, who is currently under detention orders, in an environment suitable for psychological treatment.
Considering the matter urgent, the Magistrate ordered that the case be taken up again tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
A notice was also issued to the complainant in the case.
