Indian High Commissioner Santhosh Jha has advised political parties in the North and East of Sri Lanka to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections together based on a common agreement.
The High Commissioner gave this advice during a recent meeting in Colombo with political leaders representing North and East political parties.
Speaking to the media in Vavuniya, Selvam Adeikkalanathan mentioned that the Indian High Commissioner emphasized the importance of Tamil political parties not working separately. He expressed his hope that by working together, Tamil political parties could win more seats in the general election.
The High Commissioner also said that if the Tamil political parties united, there would be a better opportunity to negotiate with the government and reach favorable decisions for the Tamil community.
Additionally, the High Commissioner assured that the Indian government is ready to work with the current president. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of Tamil political leaders to ensure the benefits from development projects in the North and East reach the Tamil people.
Political leaders who attended the meeting included Ilankei Tamil Arasu Katchi Party Leader Mavei Senadhiraja, General Secretary Dr. P. Sathyalingam, TELO Leader Selvam Adhikalanathan, PLOT Leader Dharmalingam Siddharthan, and EPRLF Leader Suresh Premachandran.
