Business tycoon Dhammika Perera has signaled his exit from politics and returned to the corporate world, according to the Daily Financial Times. Perera has rejoined the boards of Hayleys PLC and Vallibel PLC.

Previously, Perera was a presidential aspirant for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), but he withdrew from the race at the last minute, citing personal reasons. Namal Rajapaksa contested the presidential election on behalf of the SLPP in his place.

Hayleys PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates, announced that Dhammika Perera has been reappointed to its board as a Non-Executive Director. He has also resumed his role as Co-Chairman of the company. Vallibel PLC, which was founded by Perera, is expected to follow suit with a similar announcement.

Perera had previously resigned from all corporate boards when he was appointed as a National List Member of Parliament for the SLPP. His return to the corporate world suggests that he no longer has political ambitions and will focus on expanding his business empire, according to sources.
