Maithripala Sirisena hinted at this decision earlier in Kandy. He said that the biggest obstacle to the building of the party was the people who went to the government and took the party’s positions after being greedy ministers and sued again.

Maithripala Sirisena said that he told this group, which came back to the party through a Supreme Court decision despite the party taking disciplinary measures, that they should not harass the party if the government cannot stay.

He said he respects the law but expects to resolve this perverse problem within the party this month.
However, following the party decision Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has told the media that expelled members would take legal action against the party decision.
