The Welipanna police reported that the body of a 24-year-old girl, identified as Mohammad Amin Fatima Azmiya, who had been missing for three days, was discovered this afternoon (30) along the bank of the Welipanna canal, near the Meagama pier.
Collaborating efforts from the Welipanna Police and Moonamalwatta Special Task Force officers involved transporting the body from the canal’s edge, approximately five kilometers away from her residence, using two boats.
The missing girl’s father had lodged a complaint with the police two days ago, stating that his daughter had gone missing on Monday (27) night. The investigation revealed that she left the house through the back door.
During the search, a sandal belonging to the young woman was discovered near the canal, leading authorities to suspect a potential drowning incident. The police are currently conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The body is scheduled to undergo a post-mortem examination at the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital. The Welipanna police, led by Chief Inspector Chaminda Silva, are actively pursuing the investigation.
