Pastor Jerome Fernando, who recently returned to Sri Lanka after a court order prevented his arrest, presented himself at the Criminal Investigation Department today (30) to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.
Pastor Jerome Fernando had left the country on May 15 earlier this year as the CID initiated an inquiry into his controversial remarks made during a Sunday sermon, particularly targeting Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism.
In response to a writ petition filed by the pastor, the Court of Appeal issued an order last week preventing his arrest, both at the airport and any other location. Additionally, the court instructed Pastor Jerome to provide a statement to the CID within 48 hours of his return to the country.
As a result, the pastor appeared before the CID today to comply with the court order and provide the required statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
