Sri Lanka 20 – 20 captain Wanindu Hasaranga has been banned for two international matches and to fine him 50 percent of the match fee by the International Cricket Council.

Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Assistants for personally abusing a player, match assistant, umpire or match referee during an international match.

According to the ICC Code of Conduct, when the number of demerit points accumulated in 24 months reaches four or more points, those points are converted into suspension points, and a player is banned.
With the conflict with umpire Lyndon Hannibal during the recent 20 -20 match with Afghanistan held in Dambulla, the number of disfavor points he accumulated increased to 05 points. Hasaranga’s displeasure resulted in two matches being suspended as the 5 points were converted into two suspension points. The ICC had decided to add 03 more demerit points to Hasaranga, who was banned for two matches due to that. Accordingly, Wanindu will be banned again for one undisciplined act in 24 months.

Two points of suspension is equivalent to a ban of one Test or two ODIs or T20Is. Accordingly, Hasaranga has been suspended from Sri Lanka’s first two T20s against Bangladesh next month.

Afghan player Rahmanullah Gurbas has also been sentenced. He was fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the same match.

Both players admitted wrongdoing and the Emirates accepted the sanctions proposed by ICC match referee Chris Broad. Therefore, there was no need for a formal trial.

On-field umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Ravindra Wimalasiri, third umpire Ruchira Palliaguru and fourth umpire Ranmore Martinez charged the players.
