Pathum Nissanka Becomes Sri Lanka's Highest T20I Run Scorer

RAWALPINDI – Pathum Nissanka has officially become the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in T20 Internationals (T20Is). The opening batter achieved this historic milestone on Tuesday during a crucial match against Zimbabwe in the T20I Tri-series held in Pakistan.

Nissanka played a brilliant innings, scoring an unbeaten 98 runs off just 58 balls. His match-winning performance helped Sri Lanka secure a dominant nine-wicket victory over Zimbabwe. With this knock, Nissanka surpassed his teammate Kusal Perera, who previously held the record with 2,305 runs.

A Record-Breaking Innings

Going into the match, Sri Lanka needed a win to stay alive in the tri-series. Nissanka stepped up to the challenge. He looked in total control from the very first ball, hitting 11 boundaries and 4 sixes. His aggressive batting allowed Sri Lanka to chase down Zimbabwe’s target of 147 in just 16.2 overs.

Nissanka now has a total of 2,326 runs in 77 matches. This moves him past Kusal Perera, who has been a long-time stalwart of Sri Lanka’s batting lineup.

This victory was vital for the Sri Lankan team. It ended a five-match losing streak and kept their hopes of reaching the tri-series final alive. Sri Lanka will now face Pakistan on Thursday. If they win that game, they will guarantee a spot in the final.

Nissanka’s form is great news for Sri Lanka as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup. His ability to anchor the innings and score quickly makes him a key player for the team’s future success.
