Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywarna ordered IGP C.D Wickremaratne to restore the police security given to Tamil National Alliance MP M.A.Sumanthiran.

Sumanthiran’s security was withdrawn following the P2P protests held by the TNA and other Tamil groups to bring the focus on the issues faced by the country’s Tamil community.

At the time Minister of Law and Order Sarath Weerasekera admitted that he ordered the security of the TNA MP to be withdrawn.

However, the TNA MP raised the issue in Parliament and lodged a complaint with the Speaker against the withdrawal of security. The Speaker has now directed the IGP to restore the police security of the TNA Parliamentarian.
