In a remarkable display of determination and talent, six-year-old Vigneswaran Shasmika, a student at Maskeliya St. Joseph Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, has made headlines by setting a new Guinness record. She achieved the impressive feat of walking a distance of over two kilometers in just 14 minutes, yesterday (31).
Accompanied by Jud Nimalen, the country representative of the Guinness Records Supervising Committee, young Shasmika embarked on her record-breaking journey near the Hindu temple of Brownlow Estate in Maskeliya Sri Pada Road, making her way to Maskeliya Police Station.
The little champion received immense support from her parents, local residents, fellow students, and even the Maskeliya police officers who ensured her safety during the historic walk.
It seems that talent runs in the family, as V. Shasmika’s father, S. Wigneswaran, set a record in the country a few months ago by walking from Jaffna to Colombo.
The achievement has brought pride not only to V. Shasmika herself but also to her school and the entire community. After successfully establishing the Guinness record, she was awarded a certificate and a medal by Jud Nimalan, further adding to her well-deserved accolades.
Congratulations to Vigneswaran Shasmika on her exceptional accomplishment, and may her success continue to shine a spotlight on the talent and determination of Sri Lanka’s young generation.
