National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansa alleged that the US Ambassador Julie Chung has struck a close affinity with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and has been meeting him quite frequently in the last days of the Aragalaya (struggle) and the ultimate goal may have been to kill Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Wimal Weerawansa said that certain people from the security forces had also been a part of this conspiracy.

MP Wimal Weerawansa made this controversial statement while appearing on the Hiru TV Salakuna talk show yesterday (15).

There he mentioned that in the last days of the Argalaya struggle, the American ambassador met with President Gotabhaya and prayed to invoke the blessings of God.

“Miss President, you are a Buddhist. I am Catholic. She has prayed, saying, “I want you to pray when you are in trouble” she has said.

President Gotabhaya has misread these sentiments in a romantic way.

“Since then, the President has been seeing her almost every day. Not only that the President was in constant touch with the Inspector General of Police, Army Commander and intelligence chiefs. They all met continuously.”

As a result, mental barriers were formed. One of the entrances to the president’s office was blocked by activists. When the President decided to open it, it was the US ambassador who persuaded him saying the IMF would not give money and there would be human rights issues. She, therefore, advised him not to do it.

“I will give you an example. When. The activists surrounded the President’s House. The president was inside with a family member. Security chiefs have been monitoring the CCTV and telling the President that there was no problem and that the situation was under control.

“The president just picked up the remote control of a TV and turned on a private channel on the television. Then it was observed that the gates of the presidential palace were broken and people were pouring in.

That’s when he ran out the back door. He would have suffered a similar fate to Gaddafi in Libya if he stayed back. Why did the security forces fail to inform him of this? These are things that need to be investigated.”

He further alleged that USAID was behind these targets and that there was an agency called NED involved.
