Namal Rajapaksa stated that he is prepared to appear before investigators whenever summoned, stressing that the best way to prove his innocence is by cooperating with the investigations.
He made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the party headquarters on Nelum Mawatha today (11). Journalists asked whether former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) tomorrow.
Expressing further views, the SLPP National Organizer said the government must understand that it cannot sustain a political agenda through pressure or intimidation. He emphasized that investigations should be conducted independently and fairly, adding that attempts to obtain statements based on political motives would not serve justice. According to him, such actions ultimately mislead the public and place the burden of the consequences on the people.
Namal Rajapaksa also accused the government of attempting to cover up several issues. As an example, he referred to a death linked to an alleged Rs. 800 million fraud at the Ministry of Finance, claiming it had been portrayed as a suicide in an attempt to suppress the matter. He further urged the authorities to carry out impartial investigations into all allegations without attempting to evade responsibility.
