A wild elephant lost its life yesterday (21) night after being struck by the Uttara Devi train in the Murukandi area, en route from Colombo to Kankasanture. The unfortunate collision occurred under challenging conditions as the train navigated through heavy rain and dense fog.
The drivers, faced with limited visibility due to the adverse weather conditions, were unable to spot the elephant in time to avert the tragic accident. The collision resulted in the death of the wild elephant.
Following the incident, wildlife officials promptly responded to the scene, conducting thorough investigations. Subsequently, measures were taken by the wildlife officials to bury the body of the deceased wild elephant.
