According to police sources, the Western Province Intelligence Unit has been deployed to search for the gang that attacked Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.
It is reported that the DIG and his bodyguards had entered and left Temple Trees in civilian clothes after leaving a police motorbike after observing the background and the protesters had stopped the vehicle without knowing that it was the DIG who was there.
However, the sources reveal that the DIG Deshabandu has been finally identified by a person in the group and that the attack had taken place after that.
However, three persons who assaulted the DIG have been arrested so far. Defendants’ attorneys protested in court over the delay in directing the group to an identification parade.
The lawyers have pointed out that since the investigation is being carried out by the same DIG and it would be unfair for the accused and it would be problematic not to take any preliminary action against the DIG as he has also been charged with dereliction of duty.
However, there is a serious problem in the society regarding the non-arrest of anyone involved in the attack on the Gotagogama battlefield which led to this issue.
