The Welikada Police has secured a court order against the planned protest by electricity workers opposing the Electricity Act, scheduled to take place near the Polduwa Parliament Roundabout tomorrow (23).

As per the court order obtained from the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, directed against Ranjan Jayalal, Secretary of the Ceylon Electrical Workers’ Union, and other active members, the police have been instructed to ensure that no activities impede the general public and pedestrians around the Polduwa Roundabout.

Furthermore, the court order prohibits any form of agitation that infringes upon the parliamentary privileges of public representatives or disrupts the duties of government officials on duty. It emphasizes that the right to protest should not disturb individuals or obstruct traffic, emphasizing a prohibition on blocking roads or organizing marches.

The police headquarters has announced that immediate action will be taken by the Sri Lanka Police if any violation of this court order occurs.
