Website launched for public to pre-register for Prison visits

The Department of Prisons has launched a website allowing the public to pre-register before visiting any prison in the country to visit inmates.

Set date and time for the visit can be booked in advance by visiting www.visit.prison.gov.lk for visitations to be made convenient during the Covid-19 pandemic. Visitors are, however, still able to visit prisons without registering through the website as well.

The pre-booking system will however give priority to those who register for their visitations as it will allocate a set time to meet the inmates. Authorities said this will make the visitations efficient as the inmate would already be informed of the visitation beforehand and would be ready for it.

The pre-booking will also conveniently collect the information of the visitors and who they are visiting, which would strengthen the security of the prison system as it would allow this database to be accessed during investigations.
