Athula Wijesinghe, the former Chief Minister of the North Western Province has been questioned and obtained a statement regarding the disappearance of the young entrepreneur of Kuliayapitiya who went missing after visiting his girlfriend’s home.
The police investigating team visited him and took a statement for almost three hours last Thursday, Lankadeepa newspaper reported.
According to the information received by the relevant investigation teams the former Chief Minister has some relation to this disappearance. They have revealed that the girlfriend’s father, the person who is considered to be the main suspect in the disappearance of 30-year-old businessman Susith Jayawansha. The girlfriend’s father made a phone call to the former Chief Minister the day before the kidnapping, It is stated that such interrogations have been conducted because it has been revealed from the investigations.
According to the relevant report, during the questioning, the Chief Minister stated that the suspect asked him for advice about his daughter’s problem and informed him to seek legal advice in this regard.
It has also been revealed that the main suspect has paid an amount of eighteen thousand rupees to the two persons who have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in this incident.
It has been revealed that the two of them had given the money to take the businessman’s girlfriend’s father’s house to his mansion in Dummalasuriya and put them in a van with their hands and feet tied.
However, the suspects are arrested in Welimada. It has been revealed that the money received by them had already been shared. In addition, it is said that the elderly man and a woman who are said to be the father of the main suspect and mother of his wife have also been remanded until May 13.
However, the girlfriend of the missing young businessman Susith Jayawansa, her father who is the main suspect, his wife, and the other two children have fled the area and the police have not been able to find any trace of them yet.
