Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Eran Wickramaratne pointed out in parliament that the current government took steps to reduce the tax on Sugar from Rs. 50 to just 25 cents overnight to benefit businessmen close to them. According to him, through this move, businessmen are making Rs. 4 Billion while it is of no benefit to the public.
He also pointed out that the total loss incurred by the government on 4 items alone through these tax concessions would exceed Rs. 7 billion.
