Bradman Weerakoon, a senior civil servant and distinguished public administrator, passed away this morning at the age of 94.
He joined the Sri Lanka Civil Service in 1954 and served in various parts of the island. He became the Secretary to Prime Minister Sir John Kotelawala and went on to serve as Secretary to all elected Prime Ministers and Presidents until 2002.
In total, he served as Secretary to seven Prime Ministers and three Presidents.
Mr. Weerakoon completed his primary education at Holy Cross College, Kalutara, and his secondary education at St. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa. He obtained an Honours Degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Peradeniya.
He also received a Fulbright scholarship and earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan, USA.
