Lalit Charminda – A former minister, a female state minister, and two members of Parliament from Galle district, who served in the last Parliament, have decided not to run in the upcoming election. Their names were not included in the nomination papers submitted to the Galle District Election Officer.
As a result, the United National Party Chairman, former Minister, and former Member of Parliament Vajira Abeywardena will not be contesting this election.
Former state minister Geetha Kumarasinghe, who tried to join Sajith’s Kandy platform at the last moment, is also not running in this election.
Former MPs Shan Vijayalal de Silva and Sampath Athukorala have also chosen not to contest.
Political sources say that Vajira Abeywardena’s name has been added to the national list of the New Democratic Front.
Geetha Kumarasinghe, Shan Vijayalal de Silva, and Sampath Athukorala were previously elected to Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the last parliamentary election.
Former minister Ramesh Pathirana, who received over 200,000 preferential votes in the last election, will lead the Galle district group of the New Democratic Front in this election.
Additionally, former minister Manusha Nanayakkara, who was elected to Parliament from the Samagi Jana Balavega in the last election, will now contest under the New Democratic Front.
Former State Minister Mohan P. de Silva and former MP Isuru Dodangoda are once again contesting with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
The National People’s Power team in Galle district is led by its executive member and former Southern Provincial Council member Nalin Hevage. Former Southern Provincial Councilor Rathna Gamage, an executive member of the National People’s Power, is running in this election representing the Habaraduwa constituency.
