The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Sunday that US forces struck an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette in the Gulf of Oman as part of the opening phase of Operation Epic Fury.

According to CENTCOM, the vessel was hit by US military forces and is currently sinking at the Chah Bahar pier in southeastern Iran. The command did not clarify whether the ship belonged to the Iranian Navy or to the naval arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

US officials said the strike formed part of Operation Epic Fury, though further operational details were not immediately released.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, the US President urged members of Iran’s armed forces, including the IRGC and police, to “lay down your weapons,” adding a direct warning to the targeted vessel to “abandon ship.”

Iranian authorities have not yet issued a detailed response regarding casualties, damage assessments, or the ownership of the vessel.

The incident marks a sharp escalation in tensions in the strategically vital Gulf of Oman, a key maritime route near the Strait of Hormuz. Observers say the situation is being closely monitored for potential regional fallout.
