The U.S. Embassy in Colombo announced today (November 13) that it has lifted the travel restrictions for Americans visiting the Arugam Bay area.

The Embassy stated, “The U.S. Embassy in Colombo has lifted the travel restrictions issued on October 23, 2024, for Arugam Bay. We encourage all U.S. citizens to review the Travel Advisory for Sri Lanka, remain vigilant, stay aware of your surroundings, and report any suspicious activity or emergencies to local authorities (dial 119).”

The travel restrictions were initially imposed on October 23, based on international intelligence indicating a possible threat targeting Israeli tourists in the area.

The Embassy also mentioned that it will update its travel advisory for Sri Lanka following the lifting of these restrictions.
