Calum Mudannayake, the convener of the University of Kelaniya Students’ Union, has been apprehended by the Public Complaints Division of the CID in connection with an incident involving the alleged torture of freshmen on the university premises.
Mudannayake had reportedly evaded police cooperation during the investigation into the incident. However, authorities managed to arrest him while he was attempting to depart from Katunayake airport.
Today (26), Mudannayake is set to appear before the Mahara Magistrate Court to face charges related to the alleged incident.
The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny and public outcry over the reported mistreatment of freshmen within the university campus. As investigations continue, authorities are committed to ensuring accountability and justice for the victims.
