UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka adopted

22 Votes in favor - 11 against – 14 abstained

The resolution of UNHRC against Sri Lanka has been adopted with 22 Countries voted in favor while 11 Countries voted against it.

Vote took place Tuesday at the last day of 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Countries that voted against the resolution were Bangladesh, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Somalia,Venezuela and Uzbekistan.

India, Bahrain, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon, Indonesia, Japan, Libya, Mauritania, Namibia, Nepal, Senegal, Sudan and Togo abstained voting and the rest of the countries led by Britain voted in favor of the human rights resolution against Sri Lanka.
The polling began at around 4.35 pm today (Sri Lanka time).

The resolution was co-sponsored by six countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Montenegro, Macedonia and Malawi, citing human rights abuses in Sri Lanka. The resolution against Sri Lanka and several other resolutions against several countries were tabled at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council yesterday (22).

The vote was postponed due to a problem with the agenda of that session yesterday.
