Two persons injured in a shooting incident near the Sirisara Housing Complex in Sahaspura, Borella, last night (07) have died while receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo, police said.
One of the youths succumbed to his injuries this morning, while three others remain in critical condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). One of the victims had also undergone surgery.
According to police, the victims were preparing the playground for a sports event scheduled for today when they were shot by two assailants who arrived on a motorcycle. The attack was carried out using a T-56 firearm.
Investigators have identified the suspects, and preliminary inquiries suggest that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two drug traffickers currently residing abroad.
Police say three special investigation teams have been deployed to carry out further inquiries.
