A large number of desperate people who had been queuing for fuel for two days near the Kalagedihena fuel station held a protest by blocking the Colombo-Kandy main road at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
The protesters were seen chanting various slogans including ‘Get rid of fuel and get rid of Gota’.
Shortly after the protest began, police in Bemmulla, Gampaha, Weeragula, Yakkala and Nittambuwa police stations were present, but protesters continued.
There were long queues on both sides of the road and a small number of vehicles could be seen running through the small space left and created a large traffic last evening.
