Two individuals have been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Police on suspicion of planning to attack Israeli nationals staying in Sri Lanka. The arrests took place in the Rathmalana area, with one suspect of Maldivian origin and the other from Jaffna.
Sri Lankan security forces were alerted to the planned attack in Arugam Bay by Indian intelligence agencies.
Following a travel advisory issued by the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka regarding travel to the Arugam Bay area, Israel’s National Security Council issued an urgent notice. It advised all Israelis currently on Sri Lanka’s beaches, including the popular Arugam Bay area, to leave immediately due to security concerns.
The Security Council also recommended that Israelis either leave Sri Lanka or relocate to the capital, Colombo, where local security forces have a stronger presence. Israelis were further advised to hide their nationality and avoid displaying any signs that could identify them as Israeli.
