It has been decided to re-export 62 turmeric containers seized by the Sri Lanka Customs back to India. Customs Media Spokesman Additional Director General of Customs Sunil Jayaratne stated that fines will be levied and the containers will be re-exported.

He noted that there were one million kilograms of turmeric in the containers detained.  At present the importation of turmeric has been completely banned.

Meanwhile, 10 of the 30 tons of turmeric seized and confiscated by the Customs while being brought into the country have been handed over by the Ministry of Finance  to the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Products Corporation at their request.
