Tilvin Did Not Call Charith Abeysinghe: JVP Rejects Waruna Rajapaksa’s Claim

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has strongly rejected a claim made by Waruna Rajapaksa at a media briefing held by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) on Thursday (26).

In a statement issued by its media unit, the JVP said Rajapaksa’s allegation that party General Secretary Tilvin Silva had contacted Charith Abeysinghe two months ago and invited him to meet the President was “completely false.”

The party stated that the allegation was an attempt to divert public attention from the bribery case involving Abeysinghe, who was arrested on bribery charges on June 25.

According to the JVP, the statement made by Rajapaksa demonstrated what it described as the political and moral bankruptcy of the SJB in the wake of the controversy surrounding the bribery investigation and alleged underworld connections.

The JVP further said that, unlike some political parties, it had no interest in recruiting individuals involved in criminal activities into either the party or the government. It also accused certain groups of attempting to whitewash criminal suspects and shift public attention away from serious allegations by making false claims.

Condemning what it described as an effort to tarnish the party’s reputation, the JVP stressed that it would not hesitate to pursue legal action against those responsible for making and spreading false statements.

The statement was issued by the Media Unit of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
