The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and several other investigative units have launched investigations into ten sons of former ministers who have been accused of bribery, corruption, and various irregularities, according to sources cited by the Lankadeepa newspaper.
Police sources further revealed that investigations are also underway into several sons of former ministers who are alleged to have maintained links with organized criminal networks.

With the commencement of these investigations, authorities have reportedly taken the necessary measures to prevent the suspects from leaving the country.
Three sons of politicians, including those of former ministers, have already been arrested over various corruption-related offences and alleged connections to organized crime. Among them is Rakhitha Rajapaksa, the son of former Justice Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody on bribery charges.
Investigations have revealed that a number of ministers’ sons allegedly used the influence and authority of their fathers to engage in corrupt activities and other irregularities during previous governments.
Sources within the CID stated that evidence has also emerged suggesting that some former ministers directly assisted their sons in carrying out these activities. In several cases, the sons are alleged to have secured influential political positions through the intervention of their fathers and subsequently engaged in corruption and abuse of power. As a result, statements are expected to be recorded from the former ministers concerned.
In addition, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has reportedly initiated investigations into a group of relatives of former ministers who are facing various corruption allegations.
