Of the 25 Covid infections reported from Attanagalla yesterday (10) evening, 20 were from Thihariya, Attanagalla Administrative Public Health Inspector Ajith Kumara told Lankasara.

Local health officials report that repeated protests against PCR tests have made it more difficult to control the spread of Covid infections in the area.

Health officials said the people in the area are being violent during PCR testing and disregarding even the advice of the clergy in the mosques. Officials said they faced a number of uncontrollable situations, even when accompanied by a team including the police and the Grama Seva officer.

Local health officials say they were able to conduct 125 PCR investigations yesterday with the help of police, despite a number of protests, including verbal abuse, assaults and threats. Officials said that a conclusion could be drawn about whether local health officials need to make a special decision on the area based on those results.
