Dr Amal Harsha de Silva, who retired recently as the Secretary to the Ministry of Sports, is alleged to have signed a document connected with the election of office bearers to Sri Lanka Cricket on the day of his retirement without informing the line minister.

An advisor to the Sports Minister who is maintaining a close affinity with the SLC officials reportedly prevailed upon the Secretary to sign the letter in question before his retirement.

On an earlier occasion, too, it was revealed that the Secretary of the Ministry had given permission to a group of members of the Cricket Executive Council to visit Australia to watch the 2020 World Cup on their own accord.

The influence of a certain high official of Sri Lanka Cricket prompted the Secretary to act in favour of cricket officials. It has also been revealed that this official used to meet with the Secretary frequently under the cover of darkness.

There were similar complaints against him when he was the president of the cycling federation before being appointed as the secretary of the sports ministry.

However, it is reported that an internal investigation will be conducted by the Ministry of Sports regarding the behaviour of this secretary.

.Earlier, another ministry secretary had allegedly spent a huge sum of money to entertain his friends. The secretary has apparently organized a tugboat ride for his friends, incurring a loss to the government.

A senior official of the Public Administration Service who commented in this regard told Lankasara that corrupt officials and politicians are also carrying out their own projects without much hindrance.
