President Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to hold the country’s biggest Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival (Bak Maha Ulele) at the Galle Face Green, where the struggle that led to the ousting of former Executive President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the transition of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the President of the SLPP government took place.

It will be held under the auspices of state institutions.

This Bakmaha Festival has been organized by a number of public sector institutions, including the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Public Administration.

Government sources pointed out that all government agencies have been directed to find private sponsors to meet the expenses.

There is an open invitation by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to all Sri Lankans to participate in this year’s festival, as the Bak Maha Ulele competitions are open to all Sri Lankans and foreigners.

The epicentre of the people’s struggle was the Galle Face Green, where the people of the country gathered recently to celebrate its first anniversary.
