More than 25 former ministers and parliamentarians representing the Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will soon join the UNP and that the party has decided to appoint them as UNP organizers, a senior UNP member told Lankasara.
He added that there had been lengthy discussions recently regarding the political future of this MPs who wish to join the UNP.
The spokesman said that they will be joinig tha UNP in line with UNP’s restructuring program and building a stable alliance to face the forthcoming elections successfully, and that new appointments would be made in a manner that would not be unfair to those who had been with the party for a long time and would not leave the party when it collapsed.
The spokesman said that in addition to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the SLPP groups from minority parties are expected to join the new alliance to be formed under the leadership of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
