A protest by teachers disrupted Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe’s ceremony to mark the start of the second phase of grass installation at the Ibbagamuwa Middle School playground.
The protest was held in opposition to the tear gas attack on a teacher-principal protest that occurred the day before (24).
Minister Ranasinghe, along with State Minister for Sports Rohana Dissanayake, Member of Parliament U.K. Sumit, and other politicians, faced strong opposition from the teachers of the school.
Teachers held placards denouncing the tear gas attack and the unnecessary politicization of schools.
The teachers, who had already gathered in front of the school, began their protest as the minister arrived. Their demonstration caused the politicians to turn away, and a group of government officials conducted the second phase of the playground ceremony.
