Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to hold official talks with visiting U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing on Thursday morning, according to Chinese state media.
Trump arrived in the Chinese capital on Wednesday evening for a three-day state visit from May 13 to 15. He was received by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at a formal red-carpet welcome ceremony attended by flag-waving spectators.
Ahead of the bilateral discussions, President Xi is expected to host an official welcoming ceremony for Trump outside the Great Hall of the People.
The visit marks the first trip to China by a sitting U.S. president in nine years and Trump’s second official visit to the country since November 2017.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the two leaders are expected to hold extensive discussions on bilateral relations as well as key international and regional issues related to global peace and development.
