Sri Lankan cricket legend Aravinda de Silva has joined the Board of Harischandra Mills PLC following the acquisition of a majority stake in the company by Ambeon Essentials Ltd., a subsidiary of Ambeon Capital PLC.
The appointment, effective from 12 May, marks a significant development for the decades-old household brand, as Ambeon moves to strengthen its leadership with a mix of corporate and strategic expertise.
de Silva joins the Board as a Non-Independent, Non-Executive Director alongside Dr. Sajeeva Narangoda, Savanth Sebastian and Sujeewa Mudalige.
Widely celebrated as one of Sri Lanka’s greatest cricketers, Aravinda played a defining role in the country’s historic 1996 Cricket World Cup victory and was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2023. In recent years, however, he has steadily built a reputation in the corporate and investment sectors through his family office, Arcasia Holdings.
Through Arcasia Holdings, de Silva holds a considerable investment in Ambeon Capital PLC, which has interests spanning technology, financial services, real estate, food and essentials, and capital markets.
His entry into Harischandra Mills PLC is expected to draw significant public attention, given the company’s long-standing reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised food brands.
Industry observers view the move as part of Ambeon’s broader strategy to strengthen and modernise the iconic local brand while leveraging experienced corporate leadership and high-profile investors to drive future growth.
