A student from Panwila Maha Vidyalaya is currently hospitalized at Peradeniya Hospital after taking an overdose of medicine this afternoon (27), due to worries of not being able to sit for G.C.E. A/L examination.
The distressing incident occurred after the class teacher has told that the percentage of attendance required to be eligible for G.C.E. A/L examination was set at its lowest level, and therefore, will not be able to sit for the exam.
Following the incident, she was initially taken to Panwila Hospital and later transferred to Peradeniya Hospital for further treatment.
The student resides in Panwila Narampana, and the Panwila police are conducting investigations into the matter. Statements have been obtained from the principal and the class in-charge teacher to shed light on the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
