The newly elected officers for the year 2023/2024 of the Government Medical Officers’ Association had a meeting with President Ranil Wickramasinghe at the President’s Office today (27) afternoon.
During the meeting, the officers presented their proposals and ideas to the President, focusing on key areas for reform in the health sector. They discussed the introduction of a new salary structure based on market value and performance, the revision of salaries for doctors undergoing internship training to address brain drain, and the need to review allowances for doctors.
President Wickremesinghe emphasized the urgency of implementing reforms in the health sector and requested the Government Medical Officers’ Association to submit detailed proposals in this regard. He also highlighted the importance of adopting short-term and medium-term plans to achieve these reforms and suggested studying the advanced health systems of Scandinavian and European countries to prepare comprehensive plans.
Dr. Darshana Sirisena, President of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, along with Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge, and Vice Presidents Dr. Chandika Epitakaduwa, Dr. Hemantha Rajapaksa, Dr. Bodhika Samarasekera, and Dr. S. Mathivanan led the new officers’ delegation during the meeting with the President.
