A baby elephant, separated from its herd due to severe flooding, has sought refuge in Divulana village, Polonnaruwa, alongside a herd of buffaloes.
Heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka’s Polonnaruwa district, located in the North Central Province, has caused widespread flooding, displacing not only people but also wildlife. The stranded elephant, estimated to be 4-to 5 years old and about five feet tall, is believed to have wandered from the Somawathiya Reserve.
This afternoon, the young elephant appeared at a cowshed in Divulana, mingling closely with a herd of buffaloes. Villagers are amazed by the unusual sight and have gathered in large numbers to observe the baby elephant’s interactions with its newfound companions.
