The Chairman, Specialist Dr. Ajith Mendis, has announced the cessation of the strike initiated by employees of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka, which commenced today (09) in protest against the non-payment of allowances and living expenses.
Dr. Mendis revealed that following extensive discussions involving Treasury officials, trade union representatives, and State Pharmaceuticals Corporation officials, the Treasury has granted approval for the disbursement of allowances and living expenses to the employees.
Today (09) marked the first instance in history where employees of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka initiated union action, reporting sick leave.
As a result of this trade union action, all pharmacies across the island remained closed for the duration of the day.
