The vehicle transporting State Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayake reportedly caught fire in the Halpe area of Bandarawela.
According to reports, the car burst into flames around 12:45 AM, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky. The incident occurred as the minister was traveling from Mahianganaya to Ella.
Local authorities, including the Bandarawela Municipality’s firefighting unit and the Ella Police, swiftly responded to the emergency, aided by the assistance of nearby residents. Together, they managed to extinguish the fire, preventing any injuries to the minister or his driver.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities assess the extent of the damage to the vehicle.
