The former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) SSP Shani Abeysekara filed a fundamental rights petition today (14) in Colombo before the Supreme Court seeking to be reinstated to his former top post at the CID.
Challenging the National Police Commission (NPC) for violating his rights Abeysekara is also seeking compensation worth Rs. 10 million in his petition. He is also seeking an order from the Supreme Court to reinstate him as the Director of the CID.
The petitioner named the Acting IGP, members of the National Police Commission, Chairman of National Election Commission, Defence Ministry Secretary, and several others as respondents.
Abeysekara was interdicted in January this year after the Police said he had brought disrepute to the Police after several phone conversations between Abeysekara and Former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayaka were leaked to the public.
