Former Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne who was recently removed from the post has been transferred to the Jaffna Police Division. His transfer was approved by the National Police Commission during its meeting held yesterday (09). Senaratne has been appointed as the Personal Assistant to the Jaffna DIG. According to NPC sources, the decision to transfer Senaratne was made based on disciplinary grounds.

Senaratne found himself a tough spot recently over remarks made by him following the arrest of Riyaj Bathiudeen, the brother of MP Rishard Bathiudeen over the Easter Sunday attacks and his recent release. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith in particular pointed out the contradictions in the statements made by Senaratne over the issue. Senaratne was replaced by DIG Ajith Rohana who was also a former Spokesman.
