The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, effective from tomorrow (01). The decision aims to provide relief to consumers and promote energy affordability across the country.
Under the revised tariff structure, the per unit charge for the category with a monthly consumption between 0 and 30 units has been decreased from Rs.30 to Rs.10. Additionally, the fixed fee for this category has been reduced from Rs.400 to Rs.150.
For consumers falling in the below 60 units category, the per unit charge has been lowered from Rs.42 to Rs.32, while the monthly fixed charge has been reduced from Rs.650 to Rs.300.
In the category spanning between 91 and 120 units, the unit charge has been brought down from Rs.42 to Rs.35. Furthermore, the monthly fixed charge for this category has been decreased from Rs.1500 to Rs.1000.
The decision to reduce electricity tariffs by 14.2% is expected to have a positive impact on consumers, particularly those in the lower consumption brackets, and will contribute to a more affordable and accessible energy landscape in Sri Lanka.
